Marking the Ninth - Returning love to Saigon

Returning love to Saigon

There were lanterns floating up the delta,
The festival had come to town
We took a room beside the harbour,
As we watched the moon go down.

A lifetime, since we shot our last rolls of film, the day we left Saigon,
On the ninth we both parted and departed to begin our great divide.
Yet despite the rolling melancholic years lost in a fog of time and tide,
Good days recalled, for your smile remains as bright as morning sun.

Frequent wind came gusting up the delta,
The unseasonal rain came pouring down
You with camera dashing to take shelter,
wheel’s spun as I swung the jeep around.

A lifetime, since we fast-packed our negatives, back in seventy five,
Just a few dog-eared diaries with a fold of dongs and dollars beside,
Back in renamed Ho Chi Minh City, we sit close across a small divide,
Once more upon the ninth our love and friendships decidedly revive.

Remembering the good, the sad and the ugly, the healing has begun
And despite the rolling melancholic years lost in a fog of time and tide,
Good days stand tall, for your smile remains as bright as morning sun.
