Marking the 9TH of March - A passage to spring

Post by Redbeck »

A passage to spring

Welcome to the ninth, for once the mad March winds have failed to blow
Not once today, have I seen the leaf-bare trees outside my window twitch,
Although this side of the glass, the papers peddle talk of storms and snow,
Mad March Hares, will box at dawn as they feel the mating season’s itch,
For a Jack Hare must find a bonny buxom Jill, as him she’ll soon bewitch.

March unfurls the Daphne, Hellebore, Primrose and sun bright Daffodil,
Woodlands flush with Anemone, Lesser Celandine and fresh Snow Drops,
The moorland lambs springing up lively, another generation upon the hill,
As we cleanse away winter’s sooty grime with dusters, bristles and mops
Hedgerows embrace a coming spring whilst blossoms bud upon the copse.
