A lesson too late for the learning - Marking the 9th of May

A lesson too late for the learning

Have I truly woken up on the ninth of May, in nineteen forty one,
Rustling reams of news; peddle war and human suffering around
Thunderous storms pelt munitions; over lives’ lived underground
Endless refugees seeking safe havens, run a desperate marathon.

Constant sabre rattling rhetoric that threatens violence and pain
Sad celebrations of victory, all for one and all for blood and tears
So little learnt from a raw tragedy of conflict in intervening years
Such unholy human sacrifice to make for the power that you gain.

A McTiernan
