Adam and eve ate the apple. Assuming the stance that the apple represents the difference in sentience between humanity and the rest of the animal kingdom: before eating the apple there was no comprehension of the consequences of eating the apple. The eating of the apple was destined to happen because without the knowledge it granted, a decision on whether to eat it or not could not occur.
Math may be similar. Was math discovered or created'? perhaps both--- dead and alive. Math could not be debated until it became present. Much like the apple humanity using math was a destined point in time, making math both discovered and sort of created in that our understanding of it is a human adaptation. This is just a 1 AM ramble....
