Snow Storm: Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth - 1842 - oil on canvas painting by the English Romantic artist J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851).
For Those in Peril on the Sea
So many souls remain unsure of their security on the high seas these days, such frequent disaster seems hardly worth the highlight of a line of verse.
Yet it guts the connection between human kind like a fish upon the gaff,
For nowhere upon the world’s oceans seems safe, danger lurks beneath every salt sea swell, despite our wish that this state was the complete reverse.
While the list of ill-judged maritime disasters seems to run off the graph.
Blockading Armadas are back in vogue, pirates sail unhindered out of their hidey coves, rusting ferries sink at unthinkable human cost.
A mean spirit of newsprint preoccupied as vessels slide beneath the waves every single day,
Tankers of oil explode in a fireball, engine rooms take direct missile hits, while small inflatable boats capsize with unfathomable family loss.
Almighty God, shine your provident light on those in peril on the sea for them it is we pray.
