Dear Note, I was determined to respond a little earlier than this but thank you for your post and welcome to the Oracle forum. We are always cognisant of the right to express diverse opinion and your first impression of the site content are most interesting.

We endeavour cover all aspects of spirituality and there is a dark side to every religion and faith, be it persecution or practices. In that sense Christianity is no different, quite simply the penalty for heresy, apostasy or appeasement and in some cases celebration of a god figure has been no different down the ages; the net result has been the death of human beings a toll which runs into many millions. We believe that constant learning and understanding the views of others is a route to ultimate good. The use of the adjective creepy relative to this philosophy would perhaps not be my first choice, however it is your opinion, however resurrection, crucifixion, exorcism and martyrdom can be equally and easily fall into the creepy fold. Indeed, what is the difference between a holy ghost and an invasive poltergeist resulting from a dire event, what makes the spirit of a small child roaming the corridors of large house in search of closure any less divine? Most religions and beliefs embrace a concept of heaven and hell, the underworld or the spirit world.

Therefore I would classify our efforts as deeply investigative as opposed to creepy. There are also many misconceptions across the table dubbed belief.
For example most Haitian Roman Catholics are also practitioners of Vodou (Voodoo, or Vodun), a religion whose gods (lwa) are derived from West African religions and once again this can be a disturbing concept in the first instance. The word Vodou means spirit’ or ‘deity’ in the Fon language of the African kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin) and holds the fundamental principle that everything is spirit. Humans are spirits who inhabit the visible world.

Enslaved African ethnic groups brought to colonial Saint-Domingue (as Haiti was known then) by Christians, hardly construable as an enterprise for good and religious freedom, were Christianised by Roman Catholic missionaries in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Most of us wish to communicate with the spirits of our deceased loved ones given that empty sense of loss, without exception we would want to believe that they are still keeping an eye on us and offering guidance in times of adversity. Indigenous North Americans believe it is important to maintain an umbilical cord with the spirits of their ancestors as guides to important decisions in everyday life, to help maintain tribal ethics, an understanding of history and a to maintain a vital connection to the natural world and so it goes on.

I am what you would call a "Christian Mage" I suppose.

In the bible, it strictly forbids the practice of magic, however this is close to untrue due to translation error. The reason it has become an error is because the references to magic were written in hebrew, using a word with no real translation, but its meaning is similar to necromancy. And so, the simpleton Romans and everyone else translating it simply did not understand and labeled it all as magic.

True Christianity as anyone who has read from the Apocrapha and old bible would know that Christianity only forbids magic that disturbs the resting dead. I hope this helps enlighten.
