In fourteen hundred and ninety three
Christopher Columbus first saw a Manatee
It was on this day the ninth of January [ee]
That Christopher saw his first Manatee
Egg-shaped head, flippers and a flat old tail
He’d never have guessed when he set sail
That a large Sea Cow would come lolling by
and catch his ever so intrepid explorer’s eye
As Christopher stared in his seaworthy pants
Did he know they were related to elephants?
Thus occurred the ninth of Manatee Januaree
