The Space Kingdom of Asgardia.

There is a new nation trying to take a foothold in our universe called Asgardia. They refer to it as the first "space nation". Their goals as a nation basically boiling down to equality, freedom of knowledge, and growth as a species. Eventually they plan to colonize other celestial bodies in our universe including our moon. Asgardia is a nation designed for one purpose, the protection of earth and all of mankind in a peaceful, unified nation on earth and in the cosmos.

I feel the first chapter of the constitution sums it up fairly well.

DECLARATION OF UNITY OF ASGARDIA
We, the free people of the first in the history of humanity Space Kingdom ASGARDIA, based on the birthright of a Human in the universe, adopt this DECLARATION

1. Asgardia is a free and unified Space Nation.

2. The objectives of Asgardia are:

•To ensure permanent peace in space;

•To ensure equal opportunities in space for all Asgardians, currently residing on Earth, regardless of their Earthly citizenship;

•To promote the welfare of the entire humankind.

3. Anyone can become a citizen of Asgardia, conditional on assenting to the Declaration, and abiding by the Constitution and the legislation of Asgardia.

4. All citizens of Asgardia are equal, irrespective of their Earthly country of origin, residence, citizenship, race, nationality, gender, religion, language, financial standing, or any other attribute.

5. Asgardia respects the laws of and international treaties concluded by the Earth’s States, and wishes to be recognised as having equal status as the Earth’s States.

6. Asgardia does not interfere in any affairs of the Earth’s States based on reciprocity.

7. Asgardia participates in the global events on Earth, similar to the Earth’s States, based on its membership in the respective international organisations.

8. Asgardia respects, complies with, and protects the rights of citizens of the Earth’s States, and protects Asgardia’s citizens in the exceptional nature of their space citizenship.

9. Asgardia has no place for political parties. However, every Asgardian can freely participate in the political life on Earth.

10. Asgardia mirrors the Earth without reflecting Earthly borders. Nevertheless, in the framework of Earthly laws, every Asgardian can freely live within the borders of any Earth State.

11. Asgardia is a nation of free spirit, science, internationalism. Every Asgardian can freely practice any religion of Earth in Asgardia.

12. There is no place for the history of Earthly conflicts in Asgardia. Asgardia creates a new peaceful history of the future space humankind.

We, the people of Asgardia, will do everything for the prosperity of our new space nation created by us; for the safeguarding of our motherland - planet Earth; and the development of the entire humankind in space. We are not the best, we are the future.

Space Nation of Asgardia.


At first I was (understandably) skeptical, however after reading the entire constitution I feel that they can't do worse than our current US pres.

Funny thing is, this is not the first time somebody has attempted to make a "Nation of Space" either. There was also something known as the Nation of Celestial Space.

The Nation of Celestial Space (also known as Celestia) was a proposed micronation created by Evergreen Park, Illinois, resident James Thomas Mangan. Celestia comprised the entirety of "outer space", which Mangan laid claim to on behalf of humanity to ensure that no one country might establish a political hegemony there. As "Founder and First Representative", he registered this acquisition with the Recorder of Deeds and Titles of Cook County on January 1, 1949. At its foundation Celestia claimed to have 19 members, among them Mangan's daughter Ruth; a decade later a booklet published by the group claimed that membership had grown to 19,057.

Mangan was active for many years in pursuing his claims on behalf of Celestia; in 1949 he notified the United States, Soviet Union, United Kingdom and United Nations that Celestia had banned all further atmospheric nuclear tests. Later, as the space race got underway in earnest he sent angry letters of protest to the leaders of the Soviet Union and United States on the occasions that their early space flights encroached upon his "territory" - although he later waived these proscriptions to allow for satellite launches by the latter.

While Mangan and Celestia were politely ignored by the superpowers, there is evidence that at least some others were prepared to entertain his claims with a greater degree of seriousness; the first unfurling of the Celestian flag - featuring a blue sharp symbol within a white disc against a blue field - was broadcast in June 1958 to a television audience of millions across the U.S., and the following day the flag was raised at the United Nations building in New York City, to fly alongside those of the member nations of that organisation.

Despite these efforts, the Nation of Celestial Space is thought to have become defunct with the death of its founder. Its only surviving legacy is the series of stamps and silver and gold coins and passports issued in its name by Mangan from the late 1950s through to the mid-1960s.

Some of the coins minted by Celestia included a silver "1 Joule" of 4.15 grams (.925 silver) and a gold "1 Celeston" of 2.20 grams (.900 gold). Their scarcity ensures that they sell for many hundreds of dollars apiece on the rare occasions they come to market.

James Thomas Mangan's descendants include his son, James C. Mangan (deceased), his daughter Ruth Mangan Stump, "Princess of the Nation of Celestial Space", and three grandsons, Glen Stump, "Duke of Mars", Dean Stump, "Duke of Selenia", and Todd Stump, "Duke of the Milky Way".

Roughly a year later from the first date of posting this topic (And 3 years after the creation of Asgardia) Asgardia seems to be flourishing and making quick strides towards becoming a recognized nation. Out of curiosity's sake, i myself bought my citizenship papers, to see where this nation will take humanity and what they will discover on their journey. A few months back, a youtuber i occasionally watch even covered the story and brought it back to my attention and i feel it noteworthy of another mention.

What a unique an captivating post! I have never actually heard of people trying to make a space nation. I was just replying to Redbeck saying that we learn new things everyday, but I must say this is one heck of an interesting one learned today!

Although I wonder, how can citizens possibly make a nation in space?

I am going to have to study the links you have provided. This almost does sound like a society of some sort.

It does indeed sound like a society that actually might come to fruition, with the formation of their Government, Parliment, National Bank, Court, Prosecutors office, and "Supreme Space Council" not to mention the Mayoral elections have just taken place as well. (Though some of these are still a work in progres) They recently published a booklet aswell, as a sort of "Welcome to Asgardia".

And now for the first time in Asgardia's history representatives from all governmental bodies of Asgardia will come together to form their Executive Congress.



And until the model for citizenship gets developed, they are going to distribute "Resident Cards" as an acknowledgement to their contributions to Asgardia.
