In cartoons and comics, the devil appears as a cute, benign tempter, pushing you to do something that's
fun or a little bit wrong.
In reality however, Satan is anything but cute.
Who is the devil? He is not God's counterpart, because God has no equal, no opposite. God has always
existed , and everything else that exists now, including Angels were created by God.
The devil (sometimes referred to as Satan or Luciger) is an angel who rebelled against God. He is the enemy
not only of God, but also of humankind, relentless in his mission: to kill, destroy, or enslave us. We're warned
,;.. be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."
The Devil's power is laughable compared to the power of God.
Yet, he is a real threat to humans, and has the capacity to ruin a person's life.
Satan has one primary tactic to deceive us. He seeks to deceive entire nations , the world, and individuals.
He twists and distorts what is true, and there is power in his lies.

Many people offer a trinity to the entity

Satan the incorporeal
Lucifer the mortal man
And Diabolus, the unholy spirit

This trinity may act as an antithesis to the Abrahamic deity

Witches' Sabbath, or the Great He-Goat

Goya never publically declared any interest in the occult and black magic but he painted many works involving witches or witchcraft and the Devil in goat like form. Witches' Sabbath, or the Great He-Goat explores themes of violence, intimidation, aging and death. The bulk of a hulking Satan in the form of a goat silhouetted in the moonlight dominating a coven of terrified witches.

In 1793, at the age of 47, Goya suffered a near-fatal illness and lost his hearing. His art changed dramatically. He began to create a series of works that would culminate in the astonishing Black Paintings (1819-23), which were unlike anything that had come before. They were visions of hell, painted straight on to the walls of his Deaf Man's Villa on the outskirts of Madrid. Their subjects included cannibalism, devil worship, and death by drowning.

"The true struggle is with the duende." According to Lorca, it is the duende that rules the art of Spain, "a country of death, a country open to death".

This was the work of the second interation of Goya, of whom Lorca said it was as if he was painting with "his knees and fists in terrrible bitumen blocks". Here his duende emerged, "not a question of skill but of a style that's truly alive"

Lorca describes the "The duende" as an elusive spirit with dark power that emerges in the moment of artistic creation and possesses the artist. In the shuddering body of the flamenco dancer and the murderous grace of the matador, it is the duende that "burns the blood like powdered glass… shatters styles and makes Goya, master of the greys, silvers, and pinks of the finest English art, paint with his knees and fists in terrible bitumen blacks."
