Every true wanderer must go through the phases of acknowledgement, doubt, acceptance, and suffering. The suffering is the longest and most difficult part of the journey. There must be a dichotomy between truth and inner peace.

George Ivanovich Gurdjieff was a Greco-Armenian philosopher, mystic, spiritual teacher, and writer who developed the "Fourth Way" system, which combines the methodologies of the fakir, monk, and yogi together for balanced self-development in everyday life. Referred to by some religious scholars as 'The Rascal Saint,' he was born in Alexandropol sometime between1866 and 1877), Gurdjieff travelled extensively across Asia and the Middle East in search of esoteric knowledge, later founding the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man in France.
