FRATERNAL GREETINGS once again!
This topic will be focusing on quantum physics, specifically the quantum theory.
definition of quantum physics: Quantum mechanics, including quantum field theory, is a fundamental theory in physics which describes nature at the smallest scales of energy levels of atoms and subatomic particles.
Definition of subatomic particles: a particle smaller than an atom or a cluster of such particles.
Anyway, as most of you probably know, quantum physics is the study and measure of minuscule particles that are beyond normal atoms. Although on this post, particularly, I shall lean towards the theoretical side of things, thus the new title "quantum theory" and the study of it.
A famous movie involving the quantum theory is that of marvels "Ant-Man" film. It features the main character shrinking smaller and smaller into what we call (theoretically) the quantum realm. Let's take a closer look at that.
QUANTUM REALM: the quantum realm (or quantum scale) in physics is the scale where quantum mechanical effects become important when studied as an isolated system. Typically, this means distances of 100 nanometers (10 to the -9 power meters) or less or at very low tempature. More precisely, it is where the action or angular momentum is quantized.
While originating on the nanometer scale, such effects can operate on a macro level generating some paradoxes like in Schrödinger's cat thought experiment. Two classical examples are electron tunneling and the double slit experiment. Most fundamental processes in molecular electronics, organic electronics and organic semiconductors also originate in the quantum realm.
The quantum realm can also sometimes involve actions at long distances. A well known example is David Bohm's (1951) version of the famous thought experiment that Albert Einstein, Boris Podolsky and Nathan Rosen proposed in 1935, the EPR paradox. Pairs of particles are emitted from a source in the so called spin singlet state and rush in opposite directions. When the particles are widely seperated from each other, they each encounter a measuring apparatus that can be set to measure their spin components along various directions. Although the measure marn events are distant from each other, so that no slower-than-light or light signal can travel between them in time, the measurement outcomes are nonetheless entangled.
(Thank you Wikipedia for the helpful definition) and yes I do use Wikipedia occasionally, I am a man of simplicity you know.
Although this description didn't quite analyze the theory, I hope this gave a general statement of the definiton. The general theory of a quantum realm suggests that our universe could be as small as it is large. "The universe is infinitely large as it is infinitely small". Plus even though this is called a theory, scientists are getting closer to proving this point of a microscopic universe inside a particle.
