Persephone: Greek goddess of spring flowers and vegetation, especially grain, abducted by Hades to become his wife, with whom she ruled the Underworld. The daughter of Zeus and Demeter; described by Homer as the venerable, majestic but formidable queen of the underworld, who puts into effect the curses of men upon the souls of the dead.

An important figure in the Eleusinian Mysteries and the Thesmophoria festival, as a goddess she was worshipped throughout the Greek world and frequently featured as an image across all forms of Greek art.

Meanwhile in ancient Greece, the school of Pythagoras (590 BC) taught the doctrine of the numerical essence of natural events. In accordance with this theory, the number 7 was considered a sacred number and thus vital to human life. Seven is considered the number of completeness and perfection (both physical and spiritual).

In a Pythagorean context Persephone resolves quite rightly down to the number 4. Why so, the cult of Pythagoreanism, believed that numbers were the basis of the entire universe, which ran on numerical harmony. Pythagorean ideology was a mix of prescience - the numerical features of musical sounds – along with mysticism (3 is male, 4 is female, while 10 is the most perfect number).
