The main character's personality is splitting, crumbling perhaps through fear of the dark, walled up across the normal exit, no escape from the dark, adrift in an ocean of darkness with only brick walls visible. Powerful aura leaking dread. Redbeck

I like that interpretation too. The wall appears to be crumbling however, maybe an optimistic future? As in with the last one the door was open
