It was the 9th day of December, I had good reason to remember
For we sailed a fleet of Dragon ships and Odin blessed the day
Cutting the waves clean and easy down through the Baltic sea
As we watched the bleak coasts of home fade behind the spray.
Those strong bearded men aboard they spoke of forests green,
A land where hills rolled lush with pasture and cattle ate their fill
Where rabbit, deer and horses roamed and otters built their dams
Peaceful coves, that teamed with plump fish so clearly to be seen
This place that steals a Norseman’s heart with such great allure
Some call it Bretland, winged-helmeted warriors Nordimbraland,
Us boys, no arm rings won in battles not lauded by skaldic poets,
Watched, wide eyed as a green and pleasant land hove into view
Agog, we clutched those Thor’s hammers strung about our necks
Teasing tall tales told around the mast were surely coming true
