Sirius is located in the constellation-Canis Major-also known as the Big dog therefore
known as the 'dog star' .
It is over twenty times brighter than our sun and twice as massive.
At night time,Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and its blue-White glare never fails
to amaze star gazers since the dawn of time.
No wonder Sirius has been respected & admired by practically all civilisations but is
there to Siruis that meets the eye?
Artefacts of ancient civilisations have revealed Sirius was of a great importance in
astronomy,mythology & occultism, mystery schools consider it to be 'sun behind the sun'
and therefore the true source of our sun's potency,if our sun's warmth keeps the
physical world alive, Sirius is considered to keep the spiritual world alive.
It is the "red light" shining in the East, the spiritual light, where as the sun illuminates
the physical world, which is considered to be a grand illusion.
Associating Sirius with the divine and considering it as the home of humanity's great
teachers, is it not only embedded in the mythology of a few primitive civilisations.

In Ancient Egypt Sirius was regarded also regarded as the most important star in the sky,
In fact it was astronomically the foundation of the Egyptians entire religious system, it
was revered as Southis and was associated with Isis, the mother of Egytian mythology.
Isis is the female aspect of the trinity formed by herself, Osiris and their son Horus,
Ancient Egyptians held Sirius in such high regard that most of their deities were
associated, in some way or another, with the star.
Anubis,the dog-headed God of death, had an obvious connection with the Dog Star and
Roth-Hermes, the great teacher of humanity,was also esoterically connected with the star.
The Egyptian calendar system was based on the helical rising of Sirius that occurred just
before the annual flooding of the Nile during summer, the Stars celestial movement
was also observed and revered by ancient Greeks,Sumerians,Babylonians and countless
other civilisations. The star was therefore considered sacred and its apparition in the
sky was accompanied with feasts & celebrations, the Dog Star heralded the coming of
the hot and dry days of July and August, hence the popular term "the dog days of
summer".
Several occult researchers have claimed that the Great Pyramids of Giza was built in
perfect alignment with the Stars,especially Sirius. The light from these stars were said to

mountain sheep" while the Blackfoot call it "Dog-face" the Cherokee paired Sirius with
Antares as a dog-star guardian oath the "Path of souls" , The wolf(Skidi) tribe of Nebraska knew it as the "Wolf star" while other as the "Coyote" star,
Alaskan Inuits of the Bering Strait called it "Moon Dog" .....

In actual fact, Sirius A has a companion star, the white dwarf Sirius B, which rotates around their centre of common mass once every 50 years, but is around 10,000 times fainter than Sirius A, which radiates over 20 times the energy generated by our own sun.

Located slightly to the southeast of the prominent constellation Orion, this, the brightest star in the night sky is visible from all parts of the Earths’ surface, hence it being held in such high regard by ancient civilisations.

The Egyptians, ancient Greeks and Romans alike, associated the time of the year when both Sun and ‘Star of Isis’ rose in conjunction, with hot sultry weather known as “The Dog Days of Summer”, a period running from July 3rd to August 11th.

However, scientist astronomers of the time incorrectly deduced that during these “dog days” the Earth became hotter as a result of the combined heat and luminosity of Sirius and the Sun, believing that these unpleasant lethargic, hot days marred by the outbreak of disease were the result of ‘emanations’ produced by malignant influences. Those afflicted were described as “star-struck” or suffering from astroboletosor; completely at odds with the sense in which we use the expression today and far more sinister.

As Homer observed in his classic the Iliad

Orion’s Dog they call it, brightest
of all, but an evil portent, bringing heat
And fevers to suffering humanity.”

Finally around 70 B.C, Greek astronomer Geminus presented a more scientific explanation of the phenomenon, writing in a subjective essay, “It is generally believed that Sirius produces the heat of the Dog Days, but this is an error, for the star merely marks a season of the year when the sun’s heat is the greatest”.

Yet there is a Sirius mystery of some intrigue.

Long before Sirius was proven to have a small companion white dwarf star by modern astronomers, the Dogon people of Mali in Sub-Saharan Africa had embraced Sirius and its companion as the heart stone of their religion. They knew for example that the rotation period of Sirius B was 50 years, and that it had an elliptical orbit. The physical orbit data was only determined fairly recently at 50.04 years, and just as the Dogon said it did, Sirius was also found to be rotating about its own axis.

The spiritual wisdom belonging to the Dogon also predicts the existence of a third star in the system, named “Emme Ya” translating as “Sorghum Female”, but thus far, not even the Hubble Space Telescope has been able to find any indication of this third star, nor any trace of the single satellite that is said to circle the Sorghum Female. The Dogon also hand down tales of three-legged spacecraft that delivered intelligent, amphibious, but humanoid beings to Earth, whom they refer to as Nommos who according to legend were blonde haired and Nordic to look at. They use the plethora of rock paintings in the surrounding Atlas Mountains depicting these beings, as evidence of the origin of this deep-rooted ancient knowledge. The rich Dogon culture dates back to around 3200 BC, they were also given artefacts by these advanced beings some depicting Sirius which carbon date to 400 years ago, 230 years before the discovery of Sirius A and its dwarf companion B by astronomers!

However, there are those among the anthropologist/archaeologist communities who believe that it is more likely that the Dogon's knowledge of the Sirius system is the result of contact with Chinese seafarers who were known to have been in the area about 500 years ago. Present day Mali is land locked, so said Chinese sailors must have originally dropped anchor off any one of Mauretania, Senegal, the Gambia or Guinea and worked their way inland up the Niger or Senegal Rivers, which would have proved an extremely tough travel and intercommunication call. So in my view the jury is still out.
