The Blood Moon Prophecy

Despite claims from various people that the world would end at various times in history, scientific evidence suggests
the world has continued to exist.

From the dawn of recorded history, humans have constantly been predicting the end of the world.
Even the ancient Assyrians thought things were about to fall apart - a tablet dating back as far as 2800 BCE states
"Our Earth is degenerate in these later days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery
and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents; every man wants to write a book and the end
of the world is evidently approaching."

Like a tendency towards congregating into social groups or the enjoyment of snacks, it's a notion that seems to be
hard wired into many of us; the belief that we are living in the last age of mankind.

Christian ministers such as John Hagee and Mark Biltz are promoting the idea that the "Blood Moon" (a lunar eclipse
that occurs when a full moon makes its closest pass during its orbit around the Earth) is actually a sign of the end
times. Indeed, in Revelations 6:12, there's a passage; "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood."

Some also point to the fact this lunar eclipse is a tetrad - set of four total lunar eclipses within two years -
as being particularly significant. In addition, these eclipses occurred during Jewish holidays (of course, the Jewish
calendar is partially based on lunar cycles). In reality, there have been at least eight tetrads that have occurred on Jewish holidays since the 1st century, and - knock on wood- the Earth has not yet ended.

Very interesting post Hope, conspiracies, conspiracies soothsayers all, swirl around us. Perhaps when we awake we'll find ourselves at the 'Clairvoyants Ball' and what a riveting affair that would be.

Back in October 2017, many people on the internet believed they were witnessing a Blood Moon on the evening of Thursday 5th, a month admittedly awash with lunar superstition and theory. But it simply wasn’t so, merely a good old working class Harvest Moon.

The accurate truth of the matter is the last time we actually experienced a ‘Blood Moon’ was on September 15, 2015. However, also worthy of note was the fact that conspiracy theorists were reasonably sure said blood moon indicated that the world would end on 28th of September, 2015. Spoilsport I maybe, but patently it did not, as all the good people in my orbit are still going about their daily lives.

So dramatic it may be as a phenomenon, but what exactly is a blood moon? In simple..ish terms it is the result of a ‘Supermoon’, which is the simultaneous occurrence of a full or new moon making its approach to the Earth and a total lunar eclipse when the sun, Earth, and moon are aligned and cause the Earth to cast a shadow on the moon. The full and rightful title of such an event is a Supermoon Lunar Eclipse.

Well that’s the sequence of converging phenomena, but what element of a lunar eclipse on occasion causes the moon to appear red. Also a relatively simple rationale, for the amount of light refracted depends on the volume of dust or clouds present in the atmosphere. A dusty atmosphere will cause other wavelengths of light to scatter and disappear, thus causing the moon to glow red. Consequently when a Supermoon arrives at the same time as a lunar eclipse, there is every chance you are going to see a large red spheroid floating around in the night sky.

However, we can all take deep breaths and relax, even the most timorous among us, for even though your bucket list may be full to overflowing you have time. The next Super Blood Moon will be in 2033 and the penultimate one prior to 2015 occurred in 1982.
