The Morrigan - The Crow Goddess

Crows were important to the ancient Celts, and being one myself, a cunning old Celt that is, I have always had great respect and admiration for these not so beautiful avian creatures. The large black birds, regarded as one of the most intelligent passeriformes in the world, were indeed associated with the mighty pagan Irish Goddess, The Morrigan.

Now, your mind’s-eye image may or may not immediately present The Morrigan as an all conquering force for the betterment of her people, but believe me the mythological Morrigan was female and a force to be reckoned with, and she could pluck sharply thorned roses, be they blood red, chalk white, pink or cerise with impunity.
Her name translates to ‘great queen’ or ‘phantom queen’, and she represented the circle of life and was thus associated with both birth and death. Linked with the colour red in many artistic perceptions; presumably as a warlike individual, the spilling of blood was a frequent occurrence in her activities.

The Morrigan was also a shapeshifting goddess best known for her part in the Ulster Cycle. Taking a warrior's stance in the battle of Ulster, and she is said to have flown above the warriors in the form of a crow during many other conflicts. The Morrigan is recorded as a member of the powerful and very ancient Tuatha de Danann (the first people to populate Ireland who were also considered gods). More intergalactic landings you might suppose, but neverthless she is considered the Irish bird goddess of war, protection, hunting, and abundance. It should be remembered that even the intensely Christian Saint Patrick, held most of the Irish pagan gods in high esteem, and none more so than The Morrigan, ergo we must always be prepared to expand our religious horizons.

On occasion, The Morrigan has been considered a part of a three-headed sisterhood in company with the Irish goddesses Badb and Macha. She not only has the ability to shapeshift into the form of a crow, but also that of a cow, a slippery eel, and a wolf. While The Morrigan was a goddess to fear, she undoubtedly took care of her own people.

A serving from David Denison, 973-eht-namuh-973.com site founder, ongoing creator and content architect.

THE GODDESS MORRIGAN, I WANTED TO DRAW TO YOUR ATTENTION, CONCERNING MORRIGAN, MORGANA LE FAY , MERLIN, MINERAL MINE, MINING, AND TINTAGEL.

MORGANA LE FAY: a powerful enchantress in the Arthurian legend

MERLIN: a legendary figure known more widely as the wizard present in Arthurian legend and medieval Welsh poetry (Welsh: Myrddin) . The standard definition of him as a character first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae, written circa 1136

TINTAGEL: set high on Cornwall's rugged north coast between Padstow and Bude in Great Britain, inextricably linked with the legend of King Arthur. Tintagel is a rich and important site overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, where trading with the Mediterranean world occurred from 450 AD. The Roman legions began leaving Britain at roughly the same time in the 5th century AD but were certainly in the area during the 3rd and 4th centuries AD.

That As Though, Ye Art To Approach A Sun,
Ye Shall Seith None But Light Ahead,
Until Finally, Ye Meet A Sun,
Ye Approach Such,
Lay With It,
Mold With It,
Until,
Ye Begin To Leave Away Forth It,
And From The Light Departing, A Shadow Doth Grow,
Mildly,
And Larger,
And All Round Doth Darkness Creep,
And Sun Retaineth Further And Further,
Until,
It [Sun] Doth Fadeth Too Highly,
And Thyne Shadow Now Moldeth With The Surrounding Darkness,
And None Can Beeth Seen Scene, But Darkness Ahead,
And Ye Lay With It,
Mold With It,
Until,
Ahead Appeareth A Light,
And Once More, Thyne Shadow Reverteth,
