NEW WITH THE MUSLIQ CALENDAR, 1425 CE

In the Arab world, the New Year has come with the Mecca calendar. The new year of Muslims is determined by the geographical coordinates of the Masjid al-Haram, which is the period of Mecca and its head mosque. February 21 is the first day of the month of Muharram in Hijri 1425. The Muslim calendar is calculated from July 15, 622. This date coincides with the time the Prophet Mohammed began preaching the word of God. At that time, the Prophet, who was not supported by most of the inhabitants of Mecca, had to abandon his hometown and to move to Yasrib, another major center of Arabia. Subsequently, this city became the capital of the first Islamic state and was named Medina - the city of the Prophet.

Hijri year is 354 days 8 hours 48 minutes 34 seconds. The year consists of 12 months in each of the 29 days 12 hours and 2.87 sec.

Since the Muslim year is shorter than the year of Christianity, the Hijri date is moving closer to the calendar of the Prophet (pbuh), which is regarded as the date of Jesus' birth.

This is the second time in the past month that I have heard about a new calendar that has been adopted by the people. The first such calendar that had been brought to my attention was the Asgardian calendar which consists of an extra month known as Asgard in addition to the pre-established months. June 18 marks the first of Asgard and the month consists of 28 days. And while I agree that a new calendar should be adopted, I feel that one should be established in a way that it will slowly correct itself as the earth tilts further off it's axis.
