Researchers created the maps using high-resolution satellite images from the European Space Agency.
Nearly a quarter of the Earth's habitable surface has been changed - primarily from forest to agriculture - between 1992 and 2015.

Hope thank you so much for this post, which highlights the most urgent topic on the agenda for the survival of mankind. We appear to be in an era of world leaders who appear to put capitalism before saving the environment in which we all currently inhabit i.e. the natural world and vast ecosystem that is Earth and crumbling about our ears as we write for our children - monstrous warming degrees by 2050 - 0ur grandchildren and great grandchildren - massive swathes of uninhabitable desert across the planet by the end of this century.

As one who has been rattling on and nay battling with my keyboard and fountain pen at least to change our being in denial about the sheer havoc and horror that global warming, climate change call it what you will is wreaking across this planet. I will add the link below:

Caused by CO2 emissions and pollution from so many sources mainly fossil fuel hydrocarbon dependence, we have only to walk through the streets of our respective hometowns for 3 or 4 hours, then rather than shower, that's if we still have a water supply, wash your upper body (as human litmus paper) in a hand basin and see the colour of the water to understand what level of pollution we are absorbing. I guarantee you the water will be charcoal grey. Car and truck exhausts, power stations, burnt off aviation fuel emissions from above, tar particles worn from roads, cement, the list is endless.

And so to some interesting depictions of the pickle mother Earth and humankind and all sentient beings who reside on her find themselves in. We have to change now not 2030, 40, 50!

David Attenborough:collapse of civilisation is on the horizon.

Naturalist tells leaders at UN climate summit that the fate of the world is in their hands.

The collapse of civilisation and the natural world is on the horizon, Sir David Attenborough has told the UN climate
change summit in Poland.
The naturalist was chosen to represent the world's people in addressing delegates of almost 200 nations who
are in Katowice to negotiate how to turn pledges made in the 2005 Paris climate deal into reality.

As part of the UN's peoples' seat initiative, messages were gathered from all over the world to inform Attenborough's
address on Monday. " Right now we are facing a manmade disaster of global scale, our greatest threat in thousands
of the years:climate change ," he said, "If we don't take action, the collapse of our civilisations and the extinction
of much of the natural world is on the horizon."

Attenborough' said "The world 's people have spoken. Time is running out. They want you, the decision makers, to
act now. Leaders of the world, you must lead. The continuation of civilisation and the natural world upon which
we depend is in your hands."

Recent studies show the 20 warmest years on record have been in the past 22 years, and the top four in the past
four years. Climate action must be increased fivefold to limit warming to 1.5C scientists advise, according to the
UN.

The warnings about rising global temperatures are truly dire climate crisis and the call for governments to take action is now urgent. It’s easy to believe that the future of the planet is unequivocally out of our hands, however….. cars and coal have helped drive a 'strong' CO2 rise in 2018

One negative factor common to both rich and poor countries alike has been the continued rise in the consumption of oil in the transport sector. In the EU, the volume of fuel used to operate flights and road transport has surged by 4%. While in the USA, use of coal actually fell but fossil fuels used in car journeys rose by 1.4%.
Over 50% of new electricity generating capacity currently under installation is green. Wind and solar solutions are doubling every four years. Coal is going backwards in most of the developed world.

But according to automotive sector expert studies, people are now driving bigger petrol and diesel cars, and travelling much further afield than before, in more countries globally.

Despite the gloomy picture with respect to rising use of cars in 2018, the future is not so bright for the internal combustion engine (ICE). While rare phenomena10 years ago, there are now three million plug-in cars in use across the world, but that is still a miniscule proportion of the total vehicle population

Apparently Norway will cease selling non-electric cars in 2025. The UK, France, the Netherlands and India all say they eliminate ICE vehicles before 2040 but 20+ years to face out the petrol and diesel engine is simply too long, we simply have to go electric as soon as possible all taxi’s, mass public transport vehicles buses and private cars the boot of regulation must be firmly on the manufacturers’ necks to sell them cheap at vastly reduced margins in aid of the noblest of causes…to save the planet. In fact if they were state owned, devoid of captalist practices with profit share going toward health and social care then we might finally have utopian model given sufficient thought.

"Global commitments made in Paris in 2015 to reduce emissions are not yet being matched by proportionate actions," observed Dr Glen Peters, a Research Director at the CICERO Centre for International Climate Research in Oslo, Norway, who led the UN emissions analysis published today.

"The rise in emissions in 2017 could be seen as a one-off, but the growth rate in 2018 is even higher, and it is becoming crystal clear the world is so far failing in its duty to steer onto a course consistent with the goals set out in the Paris Agreement in 2015."

CHRISTMAS TREES

As people buy Christmas trees this December, how much thought do people give to where they have come from
and the work that has gone into them.?

The British Christmas Tree Growers Association does not gather official data but it estimates we purchase between
6 million and 8 million real Christmas trees every years in the U.K, making it an industry worth hundreds of
millions of pounds.
Scotland is a large producer, with ideal soil, good weather conditions and an abundance of open space providing
an deal grounding for growth.

A typical fir, most popular type of Christmas tree has life cycle of about 10 years, so it is a long-term investment
for a grower, with rain and a bit of sunshine the trees are very happy !!
After the Christmas lights are switched off and the baubles are out away , trees which are disposed of responsibly,
end up being chipped and turned into material for woodlan plaths or compost .

Back on the land where they come from, the 10-year cycle all over again.


Would love to hear your views on this post. I have to say my view of trees being felled is not one I like , thought
