Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine that when calculating the numeric values of words or phrases, the users of this site either perform the arithmetic mentally or with the help of a calculator. As far as I know, there does not exist a program, which automatizes this process. But, since I dabble in programming, I'm wondering whether there's interest in a webapp that would perform this sort of thing. I can see how it would come in handy when calculating long phrases or a large list of different words. If there's interest, I can try building such an app.
Please let me know.
Please let me know.
Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
I believe such a thing exists, at least in browser.
I wouldn't mind having it on my cellphone at least.

Dear Svalbard fellow warrior of light, your proposal is of great merit and most welcome, the automation of the fundamental mathematical value attribution and calculation process would undoubtedly be helpful. One of our earlier contributors created a basic letter to number numerical transposition and totalling facility based on Excel spreadsheet technology, it was possible to type the letters of the alphabet in one by one to generate values to build up to a word and create a total.
While that was very welcome and we were exceedingly grateful at the time the app did prove to have some drawbacks: Firstly it required the user to type in one letter at a time, rather than a full word or sentence or section of text for translation to number [for example as in Google Translate] and did not generate the results in grids as is required by the site’s build up to tables, but secondly also required that users needed to install a Microsoft Office which is expensive to install and licence.
So as you are reasonably familiar with the site and its numerological ideology, we wondered if you could clarify what your concept of functionality was and would you use a Windows compatible scripting language? Also would there be any costs involved, we would need an email address for later, should.

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
GREETINGS Svalbard!
What a brilliant idea! I would be certainly interested in an app supporting the translation of letters into numbers. It is quite frustrating when using lots of paper to do simple numerology.
Although, would this cost you money? I am not sure if you already have app design software, but I do know that software is a little expensive, depending on which one you use as well.
But yes, overall I would certainly find this very helpful indeed, and I would look forward to this very much so!
Best regards,
Sh3rl0ck

What is worth mentioning, is that all the tables currently present within the site "in various guises and disguises” had to be constructed by hand over a 20 year period to date. To download them automatically “would be ideal”. If not, any help of that kind would be gratefully received in furtherance of the Great Work.

Thank you as well as David Denison for your kind words.
First off, there would be no costs involved in any of this. I want to build the application because of my interest in this website, as well as to refresh my programming skills. The potential utility of the program for others here serves well enough to motivate me.
I see that Koguntetsu provided a link to an existing calculator. If this is sufficient, then I suppose that there is no need for an additional one. However, if its features are lacking, then I would be more than happy to try my hand at building a more complete solution. On that note, David Denison has mentioned the creation of the tables. Am I correct in understanding that the desired feature is the output of tables in HTML format so that they can be posted on the website? Please clarify this for me, and feel free to mention any features that you would like, which are not available in the calculator that Koguntetsu linked or in other tools.
As far as the delivery method, I imagined a web app, which could be accessed by anyone with a URL. Down the road, this could possibly also be a made into a phone application or software accessible offline - although, I'm getting ahead of myself.
With regards to automatically downloading existing tables from the website, I am not sure yet; but I can look into it. In what file format should the tables be saved? HTML?
Best Regards,
Svalbard

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
I was mentioning this idea to a programming group I was in and am collaborating with an individual to try to create these tables automatically. Below is a conversation between "Me" and "Him" that we were having in the hopes of coming up with a simple solution so that one must only type in a sentence and get a generated table.Redbeck wrote: 18 Mar 2019 16:35 “So much to do, so little time!”

I suppose the question my friend is having is "What does he (David Denison) want in the tables"
I would attempt to describe this myself, though I still have slight difficulties figuring out the exact method some of the more complex tables are created/formatted.

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
Yes, exactly. The size and complexity of the tables posted on here varies quite a lot. I suppose that if a prototype application is built, which produces very basic tables, it could later be extended to produce more detailed output. Filters could also be utilized to determine how complex the output should be.Koguntetsu wrote: 18 Mar 2019 21:00 I suppose the question my friend is having is "What does he (David Denison) want in the tables"
The tables on the site are displayed in HTML using the
Code: Select all
<table>The entered data could be computed into numbers, and then stored in an object. A function could then parse through the object and build it into a format requested by the user: HTML, CSV, or even something else.
I agree, and I like the idea of collaborating on this, but unfortunately I'm too rusty in Python to write anything functional. I was therefore intending on writing this in JavaScript (with React), since that's my primary language. I can still keep you up to date with the development and send over the code once I have a prototype, though.Koguntetsu wrote: 18 Mar 2019 21:04 If you know anything about Python It may be beneficial to "open-source" the code we are working on in order to benefit eachother's research.

If this is in any way useful, I shall leave this here. It is a website for creating HTML tables quickly and may come in handy.

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
Many thanks for everybody's most positive and helpful input/replies from Svalbard the originator, Nazheek, Koguntetsu, Sh3rl0ck. Could I ask you all to reread the statement from David Denison set out in my original reply to Svalbard's first-instance proposition. Dave and I had a further discussion today, as I was transposing his words from a text message displayed on my small screen steam-driven mobile and in summarising mode omitted a fair chunk of the wording, being in full blooded summary and redistribution mode. I have also since coloured the opening and closing words of David's relevant passage in red.
My comments on ideas so far are as follows:
a) open source is good for humankind,
b) html I am familiar with to a low end degree
c) while Python I am aware of, in that it is a nineties launched Windows compatible high level programming language d) the HTML tables generator is interesting e) and finally might I add that the Oracle Forum phpbb board software is developed in PHP 7.2.
Thank you and Kind Regards Redbeck

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
I have noticed that Nazheek said there probably is something like this in a browser at least.
Although I believe everyone has tried searching for one, I did as well. But the only thing closest to this would be this site I found that calculates any sentences into numbers using the Hebrew alphabet and the Pythagorean Table. But I was unsuccessful in finding anything that provides a numerological table that can be used as well. Which I think is the main point here.
Having something like this would be VERY helpful, because I think there are many people (including those new to the site) that would appreciate a beneficial easy-to-understand-table, automatically calculated and turned into a table.
I apologize for this reply not containing any helpful information, just wanted to point out why I think this would be immensely beneficial, and helpful. I wold also like to add my contribution of help, although I am not too familiar with designing, software development, and app design. The closest I have ever done was build a website, which didn't succeed too well.
Hope all goes well in the design!

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
I have built a rough prototype. It does not format the output into tables yet, but it does perform most or all of the rudimentary calculations that will be necessary in order to build the tables. It is hosted here: http://45.77.220.106/
Keep in mind that since it's still a prototype, it is very basic, unaesthetic, may contain bugs, and in general requires much more development. On that note, here are the next steps:
I must say that I am enjoying this project.

- Figure out how to format the output into tables
- Ensure that all the calculations are correct and that there are no bugs of other sort
- Check that user input is valid upon submission, and handle non-letter characters, such as periods, comas, hyphens, etc.
- Improve the user interface and make it responsive for mobile devices
I must say that I am enjoying this project.

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
Wow Svalbard!
I must say I am very impressed even though this is still a rough draft. I really find it helpful, beneficial, and informative for the fact the it tells you the essence of the number, the total, and more.
And I'm surprised at how fast you were able to do this as well. I believe that with even more time, this tool can become immensely helpful.
I am really looking forward to the creation of the tables as well, for that will make an even finer addition to this already helpful tool.
Sincerely,
Sh3rl0ck

Re: Is there interest in a numerological calculator app?
I must admit, The calculator is looking really good so far. (Albeit the HTML is a bit hard on the eyes as it's all on one line) I'm trying to see what could be added for the creation of tables in this script, however Java isn't my specialty.
