It seems that even 'The Old Gods' are disturbed by the state of Earth...

The gods, old as night, don't trouble us,
Poor weeping Venus! her pubic hairs are grey,
and her magic love girdle has lost its spring.
Neptune wonders where he put his trident.
Mars is gaga-illusory vultures on the wing.


Pluto exhumed, blinked. My kind of world, he thinks.
Kidnapping and rape, like my Front Page exploits
adroitly brutal-but he looks out of sorts when
other unmanned gods shake their heads tut tut,
respond boastingly, boring anecdotal.

Diana has done a bunk,fearing astronauts.
Saturn, Time on his hands, stares at nothing and
nothing stares back. Glum Bacchus talks ad nauseam
of cirrhosis and small bald cupid, fiddling
with arrows, can't recall which side the heart is.

All the old gods have become enfeebled,
mere playthings for poets.Few, doze or daft,
frolic on Parnassian clover. True, sometimes
summer light dies in a room-but only
a bearded profile in a cloud floats over.

Good evening, a canny and amusing poem concerning the failing powers of the ancient gods and their fading inspirational vigour as far as disciples and the ability to attract neophytes are concerned, I still enjoy it after multiple readings which is a good sign.

However, interestingly enough it’s estimated that there are around 3 million pagans worldwide. This figure is also subject to a rapid rise in the number of human beings diverting their faith toward natural phenomena, amidst an overwhelming surge of capitalistic materialism and technology dependency that is destroying the traditional ethics of human social behaviour and interaction. In other words a return to the ancient ways of worship for the sake of the restoration of old values. Whether the trees lining that particular path will bear fruit in the fullest sense of this intent remains to be seen, yet a broadening track of higher power appears to provide great solace to those who would commune with the natural world.

However, perhaps this all sounds overly deep as an opening statement, for the thrust of this response is firmly intertwined with our long standing adherence to the principle that words, sentences, passages and major works derived from the Latin alphabet when converted into number produce constructively meaningful patterns that demonstrate a logical indicative sense of interconnection and purpose.

The names of the old Celtic pagan gods, undoubtedly mixed to a degree with their Roman counterparts over time, when coupled with the definition of their representative role in ancient sociology, are a prime example of the meaningful patterns alluded to above.

Interestingly in this context, our most powerful number 9 does not emerge when related to war, but is at its most potent when relating to nature, which makes perfect sense as the natural world in all its manifestations was of far more importance to our ancestors involved in the daily fundamentals of existence. This is equally applicable to our present world, for yes we can make a determined effort to wipe each other out by military might, but for life to go on we are reliant on the natural world. As in a tree will grow surrounded by meagre crops in a devastated bomb cratered landscape as long as the soil delivers sustenance and rain falls nurturing rivers, streams and springs and the sun provides warmth. And humans cannot fight wars unless they are fed and the longer we continue to abuse the natural resources needed for life on earth not to come to a sickening, juddering halt, the worse the situation will become.

And so the following Gods with a natural custodian's role to play and all worshipped with great determination in their day, resolve down through alphanumeric transposition to power number 9 without exception:

By Jimminy having been moved to indulge in a flash of reflection on my previous post on this riveting topic I remain your humbly inadequate servant, for I realise that I have been remiss in declaring a most important collective themed pattern under 6. This pattern is formed the old Celtic gods and goddesses that relate to natural and sociological forces. There are indeed six of them and hot diggerty, they fall into the alphanumeric transposition group that also resolves down into the number 6, which gains in power because it leans toward power to the right of the ultimate number of balance that is the 5.
