There was a total solar eclipse yesterday morning and afternoon, a three-to-four minute phenomenon when the sun lay hidden behind the moon.
An alignment turning bright day into dark night and chill, not seen in parts of America since nineteen fifty four, not from beach, branch or brow of a hill.
Not the longest total eclipse of the sun there has ever been, for historically speaking, that lasted for all of six minutes, recorded way back in nineteen eighteen.
Yet a magic first time for many million eyes as birds ceased to sing, in the darkness that followed corona, Baily’s beads, pink prominences and diamond ring.
A glorious sequence crept across the heavens to a swell of cheers, then as the moon moved across the sun, each watcher shed a joyful open floodgate of tears.
Humbled and elated by the wonders of the universe as one society, strangers bonded by the moment like life long loving friends swept along the arc of totality.
Remember, this heart stirring eclipse of twenty twenty four, that brought humanity back together in kindest harmony, when the cosmos chose to open the door.
