Crimean War
On this day , 9th of 10th 1854 was the appalling siege of Sebastopol, a
foretaste of the trench fighting of The American Civil War, hundreds of
cannons battered down fortifications that had to be re-dug before
the next days bombardment.
Soldiers manned the trenches night after night through two harsh
winters, in the first with almost no winter equipment.

Thanks for a poignant yet valuable post Hope, I say poignant because 150 years later we as collective humanity have learned so little and the level of major conflict across the world continues to rise.

I say valuable because there are indeed a plethora of 973-eht-namuh-973.com’s power number nines (in this case dark-side nines) associated with the first well known siege of Sebastopol as it is spelled in English (Sevastopol in Russian, Aqyar in Crimean Tartar), there was yet another siege that started on October 30th 1941.

However in the 1850s: Six screw-driven ships of the line (British Navy) and 21 wooden sailing ships were involved in the sea bombardment of Sebastapol as in 27 vessels 2+7 = 9. This complement of vessels was made up of: 11 British, 14 French, and two Ottoman Turkish, 27 in all. 2+7 = 9. In the initial foray leading to the siege allies (French, Ottoman, and British) landed at Eupatoria in September 1854, intending to make a triumphal march to Sevastopol, the capital of the Crimea, with 50,000 men. However it took them a year of fighting against the Russians to cover the distance of 56-kilometres (35 miles) between the two points, the actual distance is 58 kilometres so 36 miles (3+6 = 9), I know because I visited the Crimea in the noughties before it was annexed from Ukraine by Moscow. A major battle en route took place at Alma (1-12-13-1 : 1+3+4+1 = 9)

In the second iteration the remaining Soviet forces surrendered on 4th July 1942 a date which adds up to 4+7+1+9+4+2 = 27. 2+7 = 9. 18,000 Russians were killed 1+8+0+0+0 = 9

In terms of numbers in general there is a dominoes game named Sebastapol which works on a cross basis as in a fortress, it is also known as The Star.
