The Earth Shall Not Fall Silent

Post by Redbeck »

Good Evening - A deepy honey coated sand and gravel Christopher Lee 'Good Evening' at that.

For 'Darkness falls across the land, The midnight hour is close at hand.......' but this is no introduction to a 'Thriller' of the musical kind, but both intro and potential outro to dangerous times indeed!

‘Global citizens are deeply concerned by scientists warning that ecosystems critical to sustaining life on Earth could collapse in their lifetimes. Therefore, governments are being called upon to meet existing targets to protect biodiversity, forge a new agreement so that at least 50 percent of land masses and oceans are protected and restored, and ensure our planet is completely sustainably managed. This must take into consideration the needs of human development and have the active support of indigenous peoples. This long-term goal for nature can restore harmony with what is home to us all.’

By 2020, two-thirds of wild animals will be gone. Life is being extinguished as rapidly as it did in the era when dinosaurs walked the earth and suddenly disappeared, fundamentally because humanity is taking a chainsaw to the tree of life.

The stark message is unless this tragedy is stopped, the Earth’s delicate biodiversity could completely collapse, leaving behind a deathly silent planet uninhabitable for humans. But there’s hope - top scientists are backing an ambitious plan to put half our planet under protection and restore harmony with our collective home.

Put a sufficiently resounding chorus of human voices behind the 50 percent plan, and governments can be pushed to prevent the next mass extinction.

Nostalgia - by Don Paterson

I miss when I could drop down on all fours
and flick the ground away from under me.
I miss the wire I ran into the earth.
I miss when I was the bloom on the sea
and we slept forever under the warm clouds
till something twitched with design
and woke the clock. So we arose and went.

Last night when the waters rose again
I rowed out to the beeless glade
and lay down on the grass. My sister
taught me to watch the stars this way
lest I think that heaven was up, or heaven,
lest I forget the stars are also below us
where they sink and sail into the dark like cinders.
