But as oil companies circle armed with an utterly reckless plan to drill for oil on an earmrked concessionn close by, this is not a time to celebrate but to rise up and save yet another wonder of the world that humankind have only just discovered.
Even a minor oil spill could devastate this amazing phenomenon as well as the magic place in which it resides, harming wildlife and ruining local people’s livelihoods.
Nature makes magic, providing a home to dolphins, turtles, manatees and several recently revealed brand new species we barely understand.
Caring souls who love this our planet and therefore keen to preserve it's natural magic are telling the oil companies to back off the Amazon river mouth area, and never return. Will they listen, surely they must.
Inland from the coral reef the scene is still heartwarmingly remarkable, watchful jaguars rest on low branches, tiny fish spawn among tangled mangroves, and flocks of scarlet birds splash colour across the sky. And just along the coast, traditional fishing communities (some founded by people who escaped the slave trade) depend on a clean, thriving eco-chain in a natural environment to feed their families.
No thinking person with any form of love and devotion for the world we live in would risk this place for all the oil in creation.
